Rare (only four copies noted in the Italian Union Catalogue) Assisi publication on the life of Saint Crispin of Viterbo (1668-1750). Crispin was beatified on 7 Sept. 1806 and happens to have been the first saint canonized by John Paul II in 1982. "Like St. Felix, he used to call himself the ass or beast of burden of the Capuchins, and, having on one occasion been asked by a stranger why he went bare-headed, Crispin answered jocosely, that 'an ass does not wear a hat'".
In a delightful contemporary binding of Italian coloured paper. Binding slightly rubbed, contemporary library numeration to head of spine, otherwise a very good copy, pages crisp and fresh.
