To the teenage Uruguayan nobleman Alejandro Zorrilla de San Martin (1909-87; Foreign Affairs Minister from 1963 to 1965 and grandson of José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín, the National Poet of Uruguay), who had applied to de Bazelaire for an autograph by sending him the empty lettercard with a pasted newspaper clipping: "Monsieur, vous me faites l'honneur de me demander ma signature. Je vous la donne, d'autant plus volontiers, sur une photographie faite aux heures graves de Mars 1916 ci Verdun [...]".

De Bazelaire, commander of the 7th French Army Corps in WWI, was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as well as the United States' Distinguished Service Medal. Remnants of mounting hinges on reverse. Well preserved.
