To his friend Étienne Villeneuve (1800-82), professor of medicine in Marseille, expressing his regret of having missed Villeneuve's visit in Bordeaux, as he had been looking forward to reminiscence "our old memories of land and sea". Originally enclosed was "the solemn response of our faculty of theology" to a question that Villeneuve had submitted to Donnet: "J'ai été bien peiné en rentrant aujourd'hui à Bordeaux d'avoir manqué hier votre visite. Je vous aurais conjuré d'accepter ma modeste hospitalité. Nous avions rappelé nos vieux souvenirs de terre et de mer. Vous trouverez ci-incluse la réponse solennelle de notre faculté de théologie à la question que vous m'avez soumise".
