One of the most famous poems in German literature

Celan, Paul, German-language poet (1920-1970). Todesfuge. Typescript signed ("Paul Celan").

[Probably Bucharest, c. 1946?].

4to (280 x 219 mm). 2 pp. on carbon paper, watermarked "The Best & First Paper for Typewriter". With autogr. title at the head of the ms. ("Todesfuge") and other autogr. entries, including page number "2" on 2nd leaf and a repetition of the title above it.

Signed typescript of Celan's most famous poem, "Todesfuge", one of the most celebrated poems in German literature. In his verses, the German-speaking East European Jewish writer attempts to express the inexpressible and to penetrate the horror of the concentration camps. The result is the most compelling poem to have arisen from the Holocaust, the symbol of "Poetry after Auschwitz".

Some browning; a few small stains; corners strengthened and restored; splitting to central horizontal crease repaired.
