Interesting letter to André Malraux, asking him on behalf of the publisher Albert Skira if he can use a phrase from Malraux's essay Les Voix du Silence for the publicity of a book by Bataille and suggesting a meeting, as they haven't seen each other in a long time: "J'ai été d'autant plus touché de votre mot que je me suis senti étroitement proche de vous en lisant Les Voix du Silence. - Malraux drafted a response in red in the lower half of the second page, authorizing the use of a phrase and declining the meeting as he would return to Switzerland that same evening: "Cher G.B. je repars pour la Suisse ce soir.

Les Voix du silence is a collection of three essays on art and artistic creation that were first published individually by Albert Skira between 1947 and 1949 under the title La Psychologie de l'Art. The Gallimard publication of Les Voix from Silence from 1951 saw a reedition in 1956. No publication of Bataille with Skira is listed for 1956 but the request might still be connected to his 1955 publication on the prehistorical paintings of Lascaux entitled La peinture préhistorique. Lascaux ou la naissance de l'art.

Well preserved.
