First separate edition of Castell's Syriac-Latin dictionary, taken from the author's great "Lexikon heptaglotton" (1669) and here edited by the German Biblical scholar Johann David Michaelis. The English orientalist Edmund Castell (1606-85) was appointed Professor of Arabic at Cambridge in 1666.

Insignificant browning; upper spine-end chipped, otherwise a well-preserved, prettily bound copy. From the library of the Ducs de Luynes at the Château de Dampierre: their bookplate reproducing the arms of Charles Marie d'Albert de Luynes (1783-1839), 7th Duc de Luynes, on pastedown.
