Rare edition of the prominent work by the German numismatist Lorenz Beger (1653-1705), who supervised the art collection of Elector Frederic III. in Berlin. This position allowed him to pursue his studies of antique history and allowed him to create this thorough work on antique numismatics illustrated with many high quality engravings. The dedication to Spanheimer (4 pp.) is followed by the first letter from Spanheimer to the author (16 pp., lacking one leaf). This is followed by the main text (61 pp.), Spanheimer's second letter (126 pp.), and finally by the author's response (22 pp., lacking another leaf). Bound with this are three other works by Beger treating Greek coins, the gems in the collection of the Dutch antiquary Abraham Gorlaeus (1549-1608), and the myths of Meleager and the hunt of the Calydonian boar.
