First edition of this version and the second printed edition of the Donaueschingen manuscript "C" of the Nibelungenlied, which was situated in the private library of Baron Joseph von Laßberg (1770-1855) and was transferred to the Donaueschingen Hofbibliothek after his passing. Laßberg published the first printed edition of the manuscript in 1821. In addition to the epic, the present edition provides a Middle High German dictionary, composed by Schönhuth.

Includes a three-page handwritten table of contents in ink in the back; 19th century ownership by Joseph Volk to flyleaf. Somewhat brownstained throughout, lower hinge split. From the library of the Viennese collector Werner Habel with his ownership stamp to flyleaf.
