To his secretary Stephen Spring Rice (1856-1902): "I sent the letter to Bank request in pouch by midday post from Derby so it will not arrive till this evening at Treasury. The delay is not mine as it ought have been sent to me before.

There is no occasion for me to wait at Treasury. I shall leave for Derby 10 a.m Monday. My affairs there are 'all serene' but I must be about the spat [...]".
