To the writer Lucienne Favre about his incompetence in matters of theatre as well as in those of literature: "[...] je me déclare absolument incompétent en matière de théâtre comme en matière de littérature: me laissant guider par un simple intérêt des choses, je figurerais, par ex, u. pièce sous cette forme graphique: [dessin], c-à-d, une suite, une succession, une gradation, une narration. Et d'autre part je concevrais ainsi, sous cette forme, un drame ou une comédie, etc.: c-à-d, d'abord une projection dans ce qui sera l'essence du drame, la raison de la pièce. Puis les développements menus ou immenses et contrastés; enfin une proclamation et un retour à l'unité. La pièce, au lieu d'une ligne, s'inscrit alors dans une surface, voire même dans un prisme.
