I must confess I do not yet see any contradiction or ambiguity [...] But I would like to hear why you accuse him of [th]is, for it must be for some passage not in Bk. V & VI [...]".

Enclosed is an engraved portrait of the Scottish diplomat Sir William Hamilton (1730-1803), whom a previous collector apparently confused with the philosopher.
