Osbourne taught piano in Brussels before going to Paris in 1826 to study with Johann Peter Pixis (piano) and François-Joseph Fétis (harmony and counterpoint), then completing his piano studies with Friedrich Kalkbrenner. He was active in the circle of Chopin, Rossini, Berlioz, and Liszt. In 1843 he settled in London as a pianist and teacher.
