1861 was the year of the foundation of Le Temps, a daily newspaper, which ran successfully until its discontinuation caused by the German occupation of France. Nefftzer was one of the co-founders of the paper and worked as editor-in-chief and publisher of Le Temps until 1870, when the Franco-Prussian War complicated his reconciliatory position towards Germany. Today, Nefftzer is considered a pioneer of Franco-German relations. In 1944 Le Monde was founded at Charles de Gaulle's request to succeed Le Temps as newspaper of record.

On stationery with lithographed letterhead of "Le Temps". With traces of former mounting.
