A student of Jozef Israëls, Blommers is a prominent representative of the Hague School and created popular maritime genre paintings inspired by fishing and beach life, which were largely sought after by English speaking collectors during his lifetime.

Traces of stamps. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
