Joining the Royal School of Art in Berlin at age 14, Boeltzig worked as a journalist, editor and translator before acquiring several fellowships which allowed him to join the Berlin Academy of Arts in 1896, where he worked in a students' workshop from 1904 and was appointed Professor in 1930.
