Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
A student of the sculptor Reinhold Begas, and an assistant of Otto Lessing, Boermel made a name for himself in 1900 by creating a monument of Emperor Sigismund for the Berlin Siegesallee, a work inspiring further monumental sculptures, including an equestrian statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I in Danzig.
Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
