An important figure of Amsterdam Impressionism, Breitner created popular city views, specializing in street scenes and harbours. Around 1889 he discovered photography as a means of documenting street life and atmospheric effects.
With 2 small postal stamps. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
