Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Appointed the Coburg court theater painter in 1865, Brückner founded the atelier "Gebrüder Brückner" with his brother Gotthold in 1872, a company that went on to create stage designs for theatres across Germany for 40 years, supplying designs for the Bayreuth festival as well as for Wagner operas internationally.

Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
