Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

A student of the painter Karl Theodor von Piloty from 1860 onwards, Eberle applied himself to genre painting. He specialized in depicting Bavarian and Tyrolean farmers and huntsmen and made a name for himself as early as 1861 with his popular painting "Pfändung der letzten Kuh".

Traces of a small round stamp; a few insignificant creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
