Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
One of the most active artists of the 19th century Berlin school of sculpture, Eberlein created large monuments such as the Goethe monument in Rome, the Wagner monument in Berlin, and the "German fountain" in Santiago de Chile, as well as equestrian sculptures, war memorials, figurines and portrait sculptures. The majority of his bronze monuments were melted down in the Second World War.
