Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

His oeuvre including portraits and genre paintings, Eichstaedt mainly applied himself to historical painting, making a name for himself with his 1896 painting "Viktoria! - Die Rückkehr der Quadriga 1814", which showed Prussian troops returning the famous quadriga sculpture (which had been looted by Napoleon) to Berlin in 1814.

Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
