Combining mysticism, eroticism and symbolism, Fidus created illustrations for various journals including "Sphinx" and "Jugend" as well as many ornamental drawings, bookplates and posters. The circle of life, the return of man into the divine womb, the fusion of the male and female as well as redemption through light constitute recurring motifs in his oeuvre.

His address stamp near upper margin. Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
