Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page.
Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
Starting out painting genre scenes and religious themes, Firle was especially successful as a portraitist, his paintings of the Bavarian ruling family serving as models for a series of stamps used by the Kingdom of Bavaria under Ludwig III.
Postmark on verso showing through; a few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
