Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Fjaestad moved to Lake Racken in Värmland with his wife in 1898, seeking pristine scenery and peasant folklore. He inspired other artists to follow his example and established the artists' colony Rackengruppen. His landscape paintings from Värmland, frequently depicting winter and evening scenery, met with approval at several Stockholm exhibitions.

Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
