Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Yours most truly [...]".

One of the most significant sculptors of the 19th and 20th centuries, French studied in Florence and Paris and co-founded the National Sculpture Society in 1893. His most famous works include the Lincoln Monument in Washington D.C., the "Minute Man" in Concord, Massachusetts, and the sculpture group "Four Continents" in New York City.

Two ink stains and several small brown stains. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
