Specializing in Christian themes, Fugel was a co-founder of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für christliche Kunst" in Munich in 1890. His oeuvre comprises murals, altarpieces and panoramas as well as a cycle of 136 paintings of biblical motifs for teaching purposes.

Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
