An expressionist artist, Geiger in 1907 created a series of postcards showing Munich landmarks and copied masterpieces by the Spanish painters Goya, Velasquez and El Greco before turning towards portraiture. His study of El Greco shows most prominently in his portrait of the composer Hans Pfitzner.

Traces of postage stamps. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
