A renowned portraitist, landscape and genre painter, Groeber directed the nude painting class at the Munich Academy of Arts from 1907, and was especially talented in portraying larger groups of people, earning him the commission to paint the 12-people directorate of the "I.G. Farben", the largest chemical and pharmaceutical company of the time, in 1926.

Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
