Hagemeister, Karl, German painter (1848-1933). Autograph quotation signed.

[Postmark: Werder, 12 March 1914].

Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page.

Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "In vorstehender Weise zeichne ich meine Bilder [...]". With the calligraphic signature he employed to sign his works as well as a cursive one.

Mainly committed to landscape painting and a co-founder of the Berlin Secession, Hagemeister's style was influenced both by Impressionism and Expressionism. His study trips to Rügen between 1908 and 1915 inspired his renowned paintings of waves, frequently created during heavy storms.

Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
