Tiefhartmannsdorf, 19. VII. 1912.

Oblong 8vo (postcard). 2 pp.

 180,00

Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Obgleich Ihnen unbekannt, stehe ich nicht an, Ihnen umseitig meine Unterschrift zu senden [...]". With a full signature as well as his initials.

Inspired by study trips to the Alps and the British Isles as well as by his connections to German nobility, Harrach applied himself to landscape painting as well as portraiture. His experiences during the Franco-Prussian War as well as the death of four of his eight children prompted him to turn towards historical and religious motifs in his later career.

Traces of a small fold near lower left corner; traces of a postmark near right margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
