Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Soeben finde ich diese Ihre Karte, die ich Ihnen mit der Bitte um Entschuldigung der Verzögerung zurücksende [...]".

Applying himself to impressionist animal painting, Hegenbarth specialized in depicting cattle and horses in resting positions, was associated with the artists' group "Die Elbier" and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden from 1903.

Traces of a horizontal fold. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
