Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Freundlich grüssend [...]".
One of the first painters of the Dachau artists' colony, Hölzel was a pioneer of modernist tendencies in the German art community, his style shifting from Realism to Abstractionism resulting in figural compositions as well as landscapes and religious paintings.
Traces of postmarks; traces of several angular and horizontal folds. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
