Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Sustine et abstine [...]".

Applying himself mainly to landscape painting, Hoffmann-Fallersleben, who is considered a representative of "Wirklichkeitsmalerei", a style between Naturalism and Impressionism, was especially inspired by the German Weser region near Corvey where he grew up.

Traces of a postmark; a few small creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
