Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Considered the most prominent member of the Grötzing artists' colony, Kampmann specialized in landscape painting and lithography. A co-founder of the "Künstlerbund Karlsruhe" in 1896, he worked as an illustrator for the vanguard magazine "Pan" and created landscapes with abstract tendencies rarely featuring figural elements.

Traces of a postmark and small ink spots near upper left corner. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
