Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Herzlichen Gruss [...]".

Although he specialized in etching and pen drawing, creating illustrations for prominent works including Goethe's "Faust" and Kleist's "Penthesilea", Meseck also applied himself to painting, choosing metaphorical themes with the tree as a recurring motif, and was appointed professor at the Weimar Academy in 1926.

Some slight creases; traces of a postmark near upper margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
