Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Meyerheim's major themes included animals and manufacturing. He depicted exotic animals both in captivity and in their natural habitat, his "Tierbude" paintings hinting at the alarming situation of wild beasts surrounded by large crowds in small spaces; his cycle "Lebensgeschichte einer Lokomotive" constituted a major attraction at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition of 1912.

Some small ink spots and creases near lower corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
