Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page.
Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
A co-founder of the Worpswede artists' colony, Modersohn was a popular landscape painter working in the Plein Air style of the Barbizon School. Worpswede constituted the centre of his creative work until the death of his second wife in 1908, when he moved to the nearby Fischerhude and undertool study tours to Franconia and the Allgäu in the 1920s and 1930s.
Traces of postmarks; a few small creaes near top left corner. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
