Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page.
Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
Starting out as a naturalist painter who frequently chose Norwegian themes despite studying and living in Düsseldorf and Munich most of the time, Munthe began experimenting with decorative art in the Arts and Crafts style in the 1890s, and created illustrations for the works of the Icelandic historian and poet Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241).
Traces of small folds near lower right corner. Self-addressed by the collector. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
