Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Dem schönen alten Rostock meinen Gruss in der Erinnerung, dass ich dort viel Schönes erlebte [...]".

One of the most prominent representatives of Rhenish Expressionism, Nauen created paintings, drawings and prints as well as monumental murals and mosaics. Many of his works were inspired by the garden and neighborhood of Dilborn palace near Brüggen, where he lived from 1911 to 1931.

Small creases near upper corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
