Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Besser spät - als nie! [...]".

Living in Mexico from 1829 to 1834, Nebel is best known for his paintings and lithographs of Mexican scenery and people during the Mexican-American War. Fifty of his lithographs illustrate an 1836 description of the country entitled "Voyage pittoresque et archéologique dans la partie la plus intéressante du Méxique".

A few small creases near the corners. Self-addressed by the collector. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
