A representative of the Düsseldorf School, Nüttgens applied himself to historical and interior painting and decorated churches in and around Berlin, the Rosenkranz-Basilika in Berlin-Steglitz as well as his 1939 ceiling painting in St. Joseph in Luckenwalde constituting two of his major works.
Small creases near lower left corner. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
