Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Yours very truly [...]".

Regularly participating in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition from 1880, Rimington specialized in landscape painting inspired by his travels across Europe, including scenery of the Pyrenees, Austrian forests, Innsbruck, Vienna and the Tyrol, Germany, Italy and Spain, and was also a successful book ilustrator, 24 of his works illustrating "The Cities of Spain" by Edward Hutton in 1906.

Small tear in left margin; traces of a postmark; several small ink spots; faint creases near corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
