Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

An artist of the Munich Secession, Schuster-Woldan mainly applied himself to portraiture and landscape painting. The allegorical ceiling fresco in the Bundesratssaal in the Berlin Reichstag, created between 1901 and 1911, is his most famous work.

Traces of postal stamps; several small ink spots near upper margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
