A founding member of the Munich Secession in 1892, Stuck specialized in mythological, allegorical and symbolist themes, his 1893 painting "Die Sünde" constituting one of his most famous works. He created caricatures for the magazine "Fliegende Blätter" and designed his own villa in Bogenhausen, for which he was awarded an honorary doctorate of the Munich Technical University in 1928.

Small round stamp; traces of postmarks; small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
