Associated with Impressionism due to his ability to grasp sketchy movements in his bronze works, Troubetzkoy specialized in depicting the society of the Belle Époque, the monumental equestrian statue of the Russian Tsar Alexander III. in St. Petersburg constituting his best-known work.

Several small ink spots; some small creases near right corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
