Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

A realist painter associated with the circle around Wilhelm Leibl, Trübner specialized in landscape painting, depicting the scenery at Starnberger See and Chiemsee, as well as portraiture, and taught at the Frankfurt Städelsche Kunstinstitut from 1895.

Traces of a postmark; a few small creases; traces of curved fold near lower margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
