While focused on oil painting, preferring landscapes of the Marburg area as well as still lifes, Ubbelohde is best known for his 448 illustrations for a 1909 edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales, on which he worked for three years, as well as for his countless other book illustrations, postcards and bookplates.

Traces of a postmark; small tear in left margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
