Inscribed to Cora Scharlau, a relative of the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

After studying sculpture in Berlin, Unger spent two years in Italy before becoming a freelance artist and operating his own studio in Berlin-Kreuzberg. His oeuvre includes monuments for German Emperor Wilhelm I and Bismarck, as well as funerary statues and a sculpture group for the Berlin Siegesallee.

A few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
