Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. The pen-and-ink drawing shows a man in profile, facing upwards.

A member of the Düsseldorf artists' association "Malkasten" as well as of the "Vereinigung der XI", Vogel created large frescoes, mainly featuring historical themes, for public buildings including the Berlin and Hamburg city halls, and accompanied German general Paul von Hindenburg as a portraitist to the front in 1915.

Several small creases and ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
