Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Grosse Gedanken und ein reines Herz, das ist es, was wir uns von Gott erbitten sollen [...]".

Applying herself to architectural painting, Waldau created monumental paintings of Mainz and Leipzig for the 1900 Paris World Fair, as well as, in 1903, four tempera paintings for the Oldenburg Post Office, showing Oldenburg city hall and the ducal palace, for which she was awarded the Gold Medal First Class for Art and Science by the Oldenburg Grand Duke.

Traces of a postmark; a few small ink spots and creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
